March 24 -
We had flown down to Wellington for the Rock2WGTN festival, but had decided it worthwhile to take the train as the return journey. At twelve hours it is not a quick journey, and to be honest flying would probably have worked out cheaper, but it was definitely worth it. Quite relaxing to sit back and relax and watch some of the more inaccessible countryside of the North Island zoom past. I highly recommend it while the line is still functional - it is only a matter of time before it is deemed too unprofitable to keep it running, such is the way the world works these days it seems.
